144 S. Utah Street

We went to the house... or the street address anyway, where I lived in 1943! It's some fancy townhouses now... just a mile or so from downtown LA.

Thanksgiving 2006 @ Rosie 'n Al's "Empty Nest!"

Big Perez family Thanksgiving dinner. After dinner Jimmy, Fritzie, Terry, Anita, Bob, Rachel, Celinda, Rosemarie, Cindy, David, Linda, Joe, Alfred, Licha, Louie Sr., Rachel (Moran) and Matthew answered some or all of these questions:
1. My Name
2. My Age
3. My Birthdate
4. City I was born in
5. My earliest memory
6. Something interesting that happened in 2006
7. Something interesting happening in 2007

I didn't get a chance to snap a photo of the evening, but I know Anita and Louie took a bunch... maybe one of them can email me one, or just post one with this blog entry (to "join" the blog, just send me an email - glenn at artboy dot info)

Poinsettia Festival

Mom and Dad and I went down to Capistrano for the Poinsettia Festival yesterday. No hot dogs. No ferris wheel. Not even nachos with radioactive cheese sauce, but they did have 70,000 poinsettias! I guess that makes it a festival! :+)

Then we had dinner at some yummy Mexican place in Capistrano. Well, except we were so hungry we gorged ourselves on chips. You know how that goes...

Welcome to the Perez Family Blog / Podcast

Howdy!

I'm hopin to use this blog to... well... maybe to actually blog... although I might leave that part to the rest of the family. I'd love to let it be an easy space for my mom to either post current news, or tell a story from the past - whenever she has the time / inclination. Everybody else - Yes, Please! Chime in!

For myself, I'll be posting audio here. Jose and Jose for starters - you've probably already heard these, but it'll be nice to have them handy. And I think this might be a great place to keep the ball rolling and post new pieces - I might try to put some Thanksgiving pieces up on Thursday, that'd be nice. (and yes, there's interviews "in the can" with Raul 'n Licha and others that... maybe I can get to over Winter break)

Two great features I'm adding on to this are Feedburner and Podzinger. Feedburner will take any audio linked here and turn it into the "perez-podcast" which you can subscribe to in iTunes, iPodder, or any other Podcast/MP3 player software you're fond of. To subcribe just place this link in your sofware:
http://feeds.feedburner.com/perez-podcast

With Podzinger you can search the words in all of these audio pieces. So, for example, if you wanted to find a historical piece you might search for a word like "Saticoy" or for an new piece a word like "Mia." Podzinger's speech-2-text engine isn't perfect so there'll be some, uh... "comedy"... but it's a great feature to help find audio you might be looking for. It'll be especially helpful as our audio inventory grows... which I hope it will do before too long!

To use Podzinger, just scroll to the little lime-green box in the upper left of this page, type in your search word, and hit "Zing It"

How to Join In

Anyone should be able to post comments to our blogs here. If you'd also like to add new content to the blog, just drop an email to Glenn or Raul or Jason and we'll add you to the "team." And then Blogger will send you an email and you confirm and then you blog away. Hopefully you already know Raul or Jason's email addresses... if you need Glenn's, it's glenn at artboy dot info.

When Jose Perez was hoppin on and off the network of trains (where he eventually lost his leg!) how could he have guessed that his kids and grandkids and great grandkids and great-great grandkids would one day be interacting about their lives and their big extended family through the invisible if ubiquitous network of the cloud.
